Find a community garden

Community gardens provide great benefits beyond growing fresh produce, they also foster health and wellbeing within the community. Grow organic fruit and vegetables, exchange local seeds and plants and learn sustainable gardening techniques.

If there is not a garden in your area, the following steps might help you in the process.

Start a community garden

Step 1.Talk to your community

Gauge if there is support for a community garden.

Step 2.Form a group

A committee of no less than eight people must approach Council in order to establish a new community garden on Council land.

Step 3.Identify a site

Contact Council to assist in locating a suitable site for the garden.

Step 4.Have a plan

Design the garden and structure of your group, necessary insurance will be required.

Step 5.Get growing

Once the project is approved and any required development approvals are granted, a license agreement to use the land will be entered into with Council.

If you have any questions Council’s Environmental Team can assist on 6378 2850 or council@midwestern.nsw.gov.au
