Works have commenced to replace the Goulburn River Bridge on Ulan Road after Council secured $900,000 in NSW Government grant funding for the project.

A temporary single lane bridge is now under construction adjacent to the existing bridge that will be demolished to make way for the new bridge.

This temporary bridge is expected to open to traffic on Monday, 25 October and will allow vehicles to pass the site while the new bridge is being constructed.

No oversize loads will be permitted on the temporary bridge, due to width and weight limits, standard loads only will be allowed across. A detour for oversize loads is in place via Gulgong utilising Cope Road, Castelreagh Highway and Golden Highway.

The temporary bridge is expected to be in service from Monday, 25 October 2021 to February 2022.

During this period traffic lights will be operating 24 hours a day to guide traffic across the single lane and revised speed limits will be in place which are enforceable by police.

Demolition of the existing bridge is expected to commence on Tuesday, 26 October over a two-week period, followed by installation of piles for the new bridge.

Weather permitting the new dual lane bridge is expected to open in February next year and will accommodate all vehicles, including heavy loads, and be significantly wider than the existing bridge.

Council would like to thank motorists for their patience as it completes this major project. An update will be provided on the opening date of the new bridge closer to the time.

Council secured $900,000 through the Restart NSW Fixing Country Bridges Program to deliver this project with a further $600,000 being contributed by Council.
