Sewage treatment

Council services the urban areas of Mudgee, Gulgong, Rylstone and Kandos with separate reticulated sewerage systems comprising of individual property connections, gravity drainage pipelines, pumping stations, rising mains and centralised sewage treatment plants. Council is dedicated to continuous improvement and maintenance of these systems, to meet health and environmental guidelines and keep the community safe. 

The sewerage systems accept domestic waste as well as pre-treated commercial and industrial liquid trade waste

Sewage Treatment Plants

There are four sewage treatment plants in the Mid-Western Region, located in Mudgee, Gulgong, Rylstone and Kandos.

Mudgee Sewage Treatment Plant

Environment Protection Licence: 5230

The Mudgee Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) discharges treated effluent to the Cudgegong River. Concentration of pollutants is monitored monthly.

Gulgong Sewage Treatment Plant

 Environment Protection Licence: 5808  

The Gulgong Sewage Treatment Plant discharges effluent to an effluent reuse area on the property “Eaststar”. At the discharge point the concentration of pollutants is monitored quarterly. Soil samples are also taken annually and closely monitored.

Kandos Sewage Treatment Plant

Environment Protection Licence: 1737

The Kandos Sewage Treatment Plant discharges effluent to Coomber Creek. At the discharge point, concentration of pollutants is monitored monthly.

Rylstone Sewage Treatment Plant

Environment Protection Licence: 1737 

The Rylstone Sewage Treatment Plant discharges effluent to the Cudgegong River. At the discharge point, concentration of pollutants is monitored monthly. Ambient water monitoring is also conducted at 200m downstream of the discharge point entry, and 650m upstream of the discharge point entry.
